Could anyone post a picture and maybe even a how-to for installing both trunk torsion bars for a 1967 cutlass supreme(442 but i guess doesn’t matter). Mine where both broken when i got the car. I think installing them wrong would destroy them again pretty easy due to that heavy trunk lid.
i would apreciate a lot - haven’t found anything on the web so far.
See if you can get a copy of the Body by Fisher service manual 1967. It has the directions for installing the torsion rods and how to make the tool to adjust them.
Hello All,
I hope this post helps anyone looking to replace their torsion rods on their Oldsmobile Cutlass'.
Please Note:
1968 - 1972 Convertible torsion rods = 46" in length at the bend - OPGI & JEPGS
1966 - 1967 Convertible torsion rods = 44" in length at the bend - JEGS Only
This took lots of buying and shipping back and forth of different rods from OPGI, Summit Racing, and Jegs.
YearOne, Oldsparts, AMD, EBAY, Fusick and Classic Industries did not have these rods.
None of these groups have the actual lengths of the rods in their details sheets or page descriptions.
I have added photos and the actual part number from Jegs.
Please confirm, but I believe all A-BODY Convertibles would use either of these rods.

I just use a deep socket and extension bar on my big cars, but yeah, these are no fun to work on. Every time i see a boneyard big car of my vintage, I grab these torque rods since no one will ever make ‘em again.
I’ve toyed around with installing gas cylinders like modern cars. Has anyone used those as a substitute?
