1967 trunk tension rods keep falling out
I finally figured out the way to install the rods for the trunk , but when I close it the pop loose no matter which hold I put them in . Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
Are you sure you have the right length rods? Next, look at the shape of the holes they pivot in, are they circular or egg shaped? Next look at the shape of the posts they sit in— have the vertical pieces bowed out? They may need to be bent back in.
When I put them in, i do the pivot holes first, then use a long sockets or cheater bar to pull the L ends up into the tension slots
I’ve always pointed the “L” side end with rod end pointing down. As they age I put them up in the higher slots on my big cars to get enough tension to make them work.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen replacements for big cars, but maybe they exist for A bodies.
