I want to put more modern seatbelts into my 65 Cutlass convertible with bucket seats. What are your ideas on what makes, models, years would be good candidates?

I suggest you might want to review how the optional shoulder belts were anchored on the 1966 convertibles first. You are going to have a tough time finding modern inertia reel belts that will work reliably with the anchor points that are available in a 1965 convertible.

A good thing to do is either have the webbing replaced on your present belts or just get replacement aftermarket ones. Folks forget that the original belts on most of these cars are 40 - 50 years old and in an accident can just snap.

One of the few ways to get a safe modern shoulder belt in these older cars are to get a racing harness but that limits anyone using the back seat when you use the harness as it goes over the top of the front seat and would mount behind the lower back seat cushion

Not looking to put in shoulder harnesses, just get an easier to use push button, retractable system.

I think the belts offered by these suppliers are the same ones offered by Kanter. I would choose the style and color you want and find out who's cheapest.

What you want is the optional deluxe belts from a 1972 Cutlass. You can probably get a repro or refurbished set.

I just sent my original stainless front buckles, male and female ends to Morris Concepts. They make seat belts with or without the GM logo "small buckles". Im having them put my big buckles on a new shoulder harness system for my 67. I talked with Billy Morris, 864-987-0032, hes a nice guy.

Thanks for the info guys. Like Joe says I think the 72 style will work. I should have thought of that as I had a 72 back in the mid 70's.

FYI, the 72 front Deluxe belts have a shorter buckle end to properly locate the shoulder belt that latches into the keyhole slot on the male end. The buckle ends up near the drivers right hip area. The earlier Deluxe lap belts have a longer buckle end that is closer to the drivers left hip area. I found the earlier, longer belt was more convenient as it didn't as easily fall into the gap between the bucket seat and the console. The shorter 72 buckle end seems to always fall into the gap and it is sometimes a bit difficult to extricate it.

I'm with Ken, I like the 70s over my 72, its harder to reach over to connect the belts on the 72 as well. Since I am right handed and the belt is so far to the right its harder to buckle with my left hand. Not that its that difficult but I do notice a difference.
