Windshield Pillar Covers

Are the metal covers for the windshield pillars the same for a '70 Cutlass S and a '72 Vista Cruiser? Eyeballing these ones, they appear identical (black is Cutlass, blue is VC). The only difference I've noted was a rubber seal running the length of the VC cover, which I haven't seen in a Cutlass before. Should I use the rubber seal in my Cutlass or omit it?

Unless the rubber seal has a mechanical connection - like holes or a slot in the metal pillar, they're likely a previous owner's add on to reduce noise or water ingress.

Speaking from authority as I've done exactly that on my big cars. If it's just an adhesive backed piece of foam rubber, it's probably from 3m or Trimlok stuck on by somebody before you.

Personally I like having the extra seal,I believe it helps my big cars keep quiet and dry. Or at least I can say they're louder without the added rubber.

I do not think those covers are the same. Double check the length.

The photo is misleading, I did stand them on end and they seemed to be the same dimensions.

From the post between the doors, forward, 1970 to '72 Station Wagons, Vista Cruisers, and 4-door post Cutlasses are the same.

I did a more accurate measure of the two, instead of relying on the inaccurate Mk I Eyeball. The VC cover is about 1/4" longer than the 2 door.

The pillar covers for the Vista and 4-door post Cutlasses are a match.

On the other Cutlass models, the windshield differs and is at a different angle, so the pillar covers differ.

Yep!

On a side by side comparison they look almost identical but that extra length is definitely the finagling factor!
