Toronado Interior replacement, suggestions?
Toronado Interior replacement, suggestions?
Hey guys 1966 Toro here and the interior has seen much better days. I've been getting some quotes recently for front and back seats and door panels. I'm hearing 2,000-1,200 right now from my local auto interior shops in San Diego, CA. I'm contemplating going South of the border but wanted to get my bearings with you guys first.
Does anyone have experience either doing an interior themselves or getting one restored? If so what online vendors did you order from or what shop did you go to? Price? Difficulty of doing it yourself? Thanks guys!

There's no reproduction Toronado upholstery available, so you'll have to have a cut and stitch job. The seats themselves won't be difficult since you can get the original fabrics for a price www.smsautofabrics.com or you could always go with stock GM Madrid grain vinyl which most shops either stock or can get in the right colors.
The door panels may be a problem. SMS can make them, but long lead time and $$$$ involved. You might run up on someone parting a Toronado and be able to get a good set of doors. The interior pieces are for the most part identical 66-70, with a little change in trim details here and there.

Just updated my vinyl seats and rear arm rests.

Material was from SMS Auto Fabrics.
A local trim shop from Merriam, Ks was used. The two brothers have been doing interiors for 50 years each.
Cost was similar to what you mentioned.
Find someone who's work you can trust and let them earn their money.
