Steering Wheel Chrome/Woodgrain strip Repair

Any ideas on how to repair the chrome/woodgrain trim on the steering wheel for a 1977 Cutlass Supreme? Had the car at the shop for its spring checkup and one of the techs inadvertently peeled up about 25% of the trim on the wheel. I know that the woodgrain was starting to become brittle, but not the chrome underneath.

Will be looking for a new wheel, but if anyone has any ideas, please shoot. And yes, the shop has already committed to make me whole on this...

Cross posted on other boards...

Thanks much,
Brian

There are steering wheel repairs specialists that do this. Not cheap, but they look great when completed. Here's an example.
