Screws, Screws, and more Screws

This might be the DUMBEST question ever but here it goes. I'm putting some of the finishing touches on my car. I am finding that thigns are either missing screws for things (i.e. door jamb vent) that I need to get a replacment for. Or many other little screws missing from certain places say its takes 5 but only 3 are there.

Do I just go to Home Depot and get replacments? I dont want to stretch any holes with the wrong screw but I also dont have a resources for replacements. Then again once the the screw is i dont see me removing anything. This is primarily interior stuff, dash, vents, door related stuff.

Your thoughts?

Take some pictures of the areas/screws you're needing. Or give good descriptions of the areas you need them for. I have many jugs full of original fasteners.

Also, for those with a very specific need, Allen's Fasteners has ALL of those screws, just like the originals.

They will not be cheap, but if you absolutely can't find them, and even Scott doesn't have any, they'll have them.

Lots of the interior screws were chrome unlike hardware store screws. The hardware screws just don't look right on a restored car. If Scott don't have them then try the Allen's above or inline tube.

if you just need a few the local autoparts store usually has a HELP section with interior type fasteners like this

Lowes has a surprisingly large selection of automotive fasteners in the drawers with other oddball hardware. May not be what you need but another resource.

I was looking to get an exact right M10-1.5 flange head screw for holding trans mount to trans on 1978 Vette... I have many used fasteners but nothing matched that. On the way home yesterday I stopped at the boneyard and went down the rows and found 100's of clean used free fasteners. Already extracted. Filled a glovebox thing with 'em. Finally had to stop looking at M12's and anything with any rust at all.

If you have a power tool and the yard has cars old enough to suit your needs you can get 100's in a hurry.

If you need the chrome Phillips head trim screws, just buy stainless at Lowes or Home Depot. They will buff and look like chrome, they just wont rust or corrode like chrome.

There is an eBay seller named donmona777 that sells interior/exterior screw kits for old cars. I bought one for my 72 Cutlass. Just got it yesterday so haven't really checked them out yet, so not sure how good they really are.
