Rear view mirror dilema

I am about to get my windshield installed and I noticed the area behind the mirror base is exposed. I had my headliner installed so I don't recall how this is covered from being seen through the windshield. The stainless trim is too thin to possible cover the and I can't find anything in the manual that refers to this.

it looks like the cover might be a little askew at the very front? Maybe tuck that gray wire in a little bit and make sure the little tabs on the metal part are in the correct spot in the cover. Otherwise the cover and that thin piece of windlace is correct.

^^^This, exactly. The soft plastic cover for the mirror base needs to be slid over those tabs on the leading edge of the bracket. That does not appear to be how it is installed in the photo. Usually you need to start with the cover further forward against the windshield, the push up while moving it rearward to engage the tabs. Then install the screw.
