I recently installed Metro Sponge Supersoft Weatherstrip (part number LM12-A ) on the doors and roof rails of my 69 Cutlass. The look is good and the fit appears good but the doors are very difficult to close and need to be slammed shut.

Any one else had this experience ? Do they "settle in" or shrink over time so that the door will close properly ?

 

They will settle in had similar problem with new door strips...

 

What kind of time frame are we talking about, roughly ? I feel like I'm slamming hard enough to break glass.

 

I had to slam but not as hard as you say...I would give it a few weeks....

I had this same problem with these, but it was 20 years ago. It chipped the paint on my door. I took the seals off and cut some of the rubber out of the thick area.

I will not buy soft seal rubber again.

There seem to be many more options today. Can anyone recommend the best door seals currently available?

I used Steele Rubber products on my 66 Cutlass convertible. Trunk, doors, hinge pillars and hood with no issues. Installation was easy. When it comes time to upgrade the top it will be Steele Rubber Products, with no question. Very wide line of products. Great technical help if needed.

It sure would be nice to get a sticky somewhere with recommendations for the best vendors. Maybe a poll for each thing such as rubber, wiring, body panels, etc...
