Ignition Switch Removal
Ignition Switch Removal
Hi All,
I am having some problems removing the ignition swtich from the steering column of my '69 Olds. I read online there is an access slot that should release the switch when something is pressed into it, but it just won't release. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

I take it you have the wheel and lock plate off and the turn signal switch out of the way? The switch has to be in the run position for the spring loaded tang on the cylinder to be in the spot behind the slot to press it in. It should pull right out when you push the tang in.
First, are you really talking about the ignition switch, or the lock cylinder? The ignition switch is at the base of the column, on the top side, and is actuated with a rod connected to the lock cylinder. You do not need to disasssemble the column to get to the switch, just drop it down from the dash.
If, however, you really mean the lock cylinder, the website below provides a step by step process with photos. Note that the website actually covers more than you need, so just stop at the step that removes the lock cylinder.
