I am so lost! Rear interior panel.

I installed my new interior door panels (preassembled PUI) without much trouble. I move to the back panels, and wow am I lost.

My 69's interior was removed in 2001 (previous owner) and I don't have the old back panels to go off of. I have the PUI panels with the trim already installed, but on the rear panels there is A LOT of extra material to cover something I must be missing. The window felt isn't installed like on the front panels and from looking at pictures of other installed rear panels I am missing something that leads from the panel back to the package tray. I also have no idea how the front of the panel is supposed to look (the side that meets up with the door).

Any help would be appreciated.

If you are referring to the quarter panel, maybe these will help some. These are from a 72 vert but the concept should be similar.

Here's a few photos of a 69 Cutlass HT rear panel. I suspect you have an unassembled rear panel which requires you to re-use your original metal pieces that in turn are covered with all of that extra material you reference. These panels are a 2 piece assembly. I see Legendary offers the rear panels assembled and unassembled so maybe you want to go for an assembled panel. If not, I just saw an ad somewhere where the metal pieces are being reproduced. They're a pain in the butt to do so if you get the metal sections, have an upholstery shop do the work. If you go with another brand rear panel, you'll have to watch that it matches the PUI front panels.

There is a windlace that runs along the front edge of this rear panel and it needs to be installed before the rear panel is put in place.

Brian,

Thanks for the pictures. They really helped a lot in understanding what the excess material is used for. For the windlace; can you buy that at Fusick or another Olds parts place?

Rob,

Thanks for the links to your project. That interior is just amazing. Legendary certainly makes a really good product! The upholstery and the panels look unbelievable.

Mitch, I didn't see the windlace in the Fusick catalog but it is sold by Legendary. Also, it was Legendary who sells the rear panel metal pieces you need. Sorry to sound like a promotion for Legendary but I saw these products on their site as I am in the market for an interior. There's probably others that sell these items too. Good luck with your car.

Thanks Brian. I saw the reproduction metal uppers on Legendary's website. I think the easiest way would be to just buy the preassembled panels from Legendary.

I called Legendary about the upper metal moldings for the rear panels and the moldings are not sold separately. Only with the assembled panels. Looks like I will have to do my front and rear panels now with Legendary panels. Being that the front is PUI made, that may look a little funny with the different manufacturers for each panel.
