How to install 1972 Cutlass console/mounting brackets
I just got a used console for my 1972 Cutlass. It did not come with the mounting brackets, so I bought a set from Fusick, but I can not find out how to mount these things. I have a Chiltons, Hayes, and an older GM service guide, and of coarse it doesnt show in any of them how to do it. I searched the internet too, but couldnt find anything. Can someone let me know how to do it, or at least point me in the right direction? PLEASE HELP!!

Console Mounting
The mounting brackets need to be welded on. I may have a floorpan with the brackets still on it I could photograph for you. It may be the weekend before I have time to do it though. John

That would be great if you could show me a picture. This is the first time I have ever delt with a console. Bench seats never seem to be this difficult!. I also got the bucket seat brackets, thats the adventure for this weekend, but they seem pretty straightforward....seem being the key word.

normally the bucket seats mount onto the same brackets already welded into the floor pan as long as you have the rails that the buckets come with
i have done this in my fathers 1972 and i am now in the middle of doing this in my 1987
but, if you want this ride to be as comfortable as possible for you, put the bucket seats in and adjust them to where you sit, then set the console on the transmission hump on the floor pan, and move it forward and rearward until it is comfortable for you then mark where the brackets would but up to the floor pan in this position, then tac weld, set the console back on to make sure it is correct, if it is then weld away.
if not, break the tac and start over

Console Mounting Brackets 1970-72 Cutlass/442
Hello Silver
I have several floor pans leaning up against the wall of my shed and late afternoon I crawled in between them and got some photos. I have a tape measure in the photos and tried to show distances from obvious features in the floor pan. Go to my photobucket site to view them and let me know if you have any questions. I can take more photos if anything isn't clear. These are spot welded on at the factory, then they put a glop of tar like substance over the welds, that's what you'll see in the photos. John

I don't know what happened to the pictures. In fact I don't remember editing my post five months after the fact.....eh.
I found a post at another site with lots of pics. You can try this.

Maybe 2blu will chime in and show you his. He has a great photo album, and it took me awhile to wade through with no luck.
