dash stripe

Well, I think I'm gonna need to repaint the dash on my '68 442 and was wondering what I should do about the white stripes on it? If my memory serves correctly, I think they've actually raised, as if they were a sticker, but I'm pretty sure they're not a sticker.

Does anyone have any ideas about these? i'd like them to be put back to original form once I'm done.

Thanks

Sorry, but I can't place what stripes you are referring to. Do you have a picture?

This is the only pic I have of the interior at the moment. See the double stripe along the bottom of the dash.

Is that factory applied though? I've never seen it (or at least noticed it) on a 442 before. It just looks like pin-striping to me, but I'm definitely no expert. Does it look like paint, or striping/decal?

It's factory. Here's another picture I found on the net.

Sadly, my car is nowhere near where I am now. I'm going to be working on it over Christmas and want to get everything in order so I'm ready to go once I get there.

From what I remember, it almost seems like they're stickers, as they're raised a fair amount off the dash. But, I'm not 100% sure. Hence, I'm not sure what the heck to do in terms of reproducing these so they look and feel original.

Tom,

On mine it was originally a stick on pinstripe/decal. I don't believe they are made anymore. The solution can be realized in one of two ways. I had mine hand pinstriped by a local striper who matched everthing exactly when I freshened up my dash.
Option two would be to find stick on pinstriping at a local body shop supply store or at a NAPA/Auto Zone type store and do it yourself. Mine were silver and it did not take long to get done.
Take alot of pictures and measurements before removing. Get the stripe thickness measured. This way you will be able to get them back as close to original as possible.

If you can't find the right sizes at the auto parts store, you could go up to your local sign shop, like FastSigns, Signs by Tomorrow, ect. and give them the measurments and they can cut out custom vinyl for you. They even have some funky types of vinyl like holographic, brushed gold/chrome. I am a graphic artist at a FastSigns here in Baltimore, and I do this type of stuff for car guys/gals all the time. Just a thought!
