Cutlass Tach $195 ???

Has anyone used this 1970-72 Cutlass tach for $195 here??
It's much cheaper then what Year One or Parts Place is charging.
Just wondering if anyone's tried it out that can comment.

That doesn't look anything like a correct rally pak tach , other than being round, where's the clock too?
Just about anything you could get wrong they did, the Chinesium number font is bad.
How is it much cheaper than Parts Place?
They gets 429 bucks for the set, that 195 dollars is almost the same price as one unit would be and it's totally wrong so it's not even comparable to the Parts Place unit.
If you don't care about correct it may be okay, but for a few bucks more you can have one that's a lot better than that.

I thought about it. To anyone, non olds affiliated, and maybe some Olds people, it looks close to the original. But at over $400 for the repop units, if your on a budget like me, it's temping. I can no way justify $400 for a clock/tach combination. It should be made of gold for $400+.

Then you need their kit for $109 to make the dang thing work.

$200 for something "not correct" vs $550(with shipping) for a reproduction correct unit, plus you have to change out the gauge cluster on the left hand side. Sounds like a big PITA and too much money for a tachometer and clock.

Just my take on it, maybe I'm cheap, but it makes me sick what some stuff sells for.

Yeah I struggled with this one too.
Figured that I could just change tach and save a couple hundred.
But IMO Blue Vista is bang on.
I spend alot of time in my car and do not want to be constantly reminded that I have the wrong tach.

Actually I just ordered mine and funny enough I needed some things from Fusick and when I was discussing it with them they offered to just get me the rally pack from The Parts Place and charge me the same and include with my shipment from them . They will provide the warranty and it saves me alot in shipping and duty etc. You got to love the Fusick boys!!!

So you have the Rally Pack Tach but not the correct gauge on the left? If they sent you just the tachometer, if you don't mind me asking, what did they hit you for that?

Sorry if I have confused you.
I have both guages coming the one to replace the idiot guages and the tic tac toc. I was referring to it as the rally pack which includes both.

Oh. okay. Sorry. My misunderstanding. I don't know, maybe if my car was more "desirable" my feelings would be different. Maybe I'm just too cheap. Who knows.

Thanks for the clarification though.

Aceshigh, It seems it just comes down to your own opinion, if saving $300+ is more important that have a 100% to factory spec car then it's worth it. If not, then you gotta bite the bullet. Personally, It'd use it. But then again, you look like you have yourself a really nice car, and it might be worth it for you.

I was looking at this tach as well, and was curious on the quality of it. Purely from a functional standpoint, if I can bury a tach in the dash, vs strapped to the steering column, I would spend the money to hide it, and keep the clock in storage............So my question (and I believe Aces original question) does the tach work? and how good/bad does it look installed in the clock location?

My car won't be even 50% factory spec when I'm done.
My car's not a rare one, if it was, I'd have sold it to get one I can mod. I'm a Pro-touring enthusiast.

So forking out $550 for an ancient gauge style isn't ideal IMO unless I had a rare Olds. Return on Investment isn't there for me.
I'd spend that kinda money on a new Autometer LED Cobalt set or Phantom II set before the Parts Place repops.
I was just curious if anyone's used it so I can get a feel for it's quality IN PERSON.

For me to keep these classic gauges is hard.......my clock is dead, and I am not forking out to repair it.
I'd rather have the cheap tach if it works. I can make the illumination match.

Yep, that's all I want to know.
Not whether someone else would buy it.

He never said it was. Unless you are doing a stock resto, the factory Tic-Toc-Tac is a turd. The clock never works and is only good for blocking the view of the tach.

I hears ya. This is where we're different.

I'd be driving happily knowing I saved $250.
And it looks close enough and functions, that's all I'm after.
I have these 2 Glowshift 10 color LED gauges already in my car above the console.

I know a gentleman who had one in his car. He never mentioned there were any problems with it, I do remember it did light up a little brighter than his original gauges though.

Thank you.

Yeah comparing a newer clean gauge to a 40 year old one that's bound to happen.
I'm already assuming I'll have to paint match the insides and use the same LED bulbs to match it.

.... which really doesn't matter, since the steering wheel blocks your view of both clock and tach.

Pretty sure I am.

I've restored my other 2 gauges and put LED's in them.
So the dead clock is an eyesore that leaves it unfinished.

The LED bulbs for that are $10 a pop even on Ebay......so it's not worth it.

Tach

Aceshigh, have you bought the tack yet? I have it saved on my ebay and look at it every day. You mentioned that your car is 50% spec. I think the only spec I still have is the shape It's all about your personal opinion about how your car looks and it's functional ability. Let us know how the tach works since you'll probably be the first one to buy it.

Looks like they've sold quite a few of them with positive feedback.

This corporate owned site isn't that large.....but figured I'd try and see if any members got one.
One was sold the same day I started this thread too.
I am buying it this week.

Do you have any night time illumination pictures so we can see how it looks??

These are tough to get , you'll need a steady location for the camera without ambient light to capture it.

Are you happy with it ?

Bought it just a few days ago so it haven't arrived yet. I dont know when I'll have the time to install it I think maybe not until May perhaps. Doesn't anyone else have a night time picture of it? I cant be the only one that bought it?
