Console Conversion: Automatic to Manual

I'm looking to get a console for my '71 Supreme Muncie 4-speed, and I was wondering: is it possible to buy an automatic console, and get an adapter or something to convert it so it works with the 4-speed? Finding an original 4-speed console is getting tough, and not to mention crazy expensive. Thanks!!

you can get the insert as a reproduction but i don't think they make the chrome ring that holds the boot in it as a reproduction. by the time you piece everything together it may not be much more to buy a full 4 speed setup. 507OLDS will have better info in this. i'm sure he will be here soon.

All consoles are the same at the beginning.

Dual Gate and manual shift cars have the console body modified at the factory.

The factory assembly manual shows how to cut the console.

The Parts Place sells a manual shift adaptor WITH the chrome retainer.

You will also need the front and rear console plates and wood grain too.

Easy to do.

My 72 started out as an auto. Parts Place shifter boot assebly added in the pic.
You also need to cut the console in a couple places.
