I have a 69 Cutlas and getting the heater/AC fan switch is difficult. In 70 they went to a different type switch. I'm wondering if they are interchangeable? Or can you switch the entire assembly? Do they continue using vacuum lines for dampers? The newer switch which goes up and down vs. turning is available. Might have to modify the front plate a bit. basically i need a solution for a bad fan speed switch.
thanks,
Steve

I took it apart and discovered I was not the 1st person to do so and it was not reassembled correctly. It now works fine. Joe, just wondering if the 70 control uses vacuum lines as well. Would they be interchangable?

The A/C cars use the same vacuum controls. The heater-only cars use cables. The box under the dash is the same from 1968-72.
It's difficult on any 68-72 A-body. You have to at least remove the inner fender to access the fasteners that hold the HVAC box to the firewall. If there's any rust, the odds are high that at least one of the clip nuts that hold the inner fender to the outer will spin when the bolt seizes, which will force you to remove the whole fender.
