Buying an Interior Kit: A Couple Questions

Hi all,

I'm currently restoring a '71 Cutlass Supreme (2 door coupe) with my father, and will be looking into getting an interior kit fairly soon. I was wondering: what company/site/distributor would be the best place to get one from? I'm talking panels, covers front and back (buckets in the front), headliner, carpet, seat foam, etc., the whole nine yards. We're talking a budget of around 1200-1400, so even though I'd prefer going with Legendary stuff, it'll probably have to be PUI for now.

I haven't done extensive research yet on different places to get kits, but I did come across U.S.A Parts Supply, which seemed like a somewhat decent company to buy from (price wise, at least).
Any thoughts on either of those things? I'd really appreciate it! Thanks.

You get what you pay for. If you go cheap, that's how it's going to look. Save your pennies and go with Legendary IMO. They have a great product.

The other thing you should consider is that the material you're looking for is READILY available from most companies. Unless you're in a rip snortin hurry and this project has to be done right now, I'd collect some more cash or take out a loan to get the best stuff the first time. There will be plenty of opinions on what is good, better or best, but most of us agree that Legendary is one of the best aftermarket suppliers of interiors at a reasonable price.

Nice to see there are still some Father/Son projects out there. Maybe you could tap into the old man for some of the project money

X3 But like Allan said if you want to save a while longer you should try www.smsautofabrics.com they are spot on with their fabrics, textures and colors. And will even send free samples to match up to what you already have.

I know price is important to you (and I), but your interior is what you and your passengers will see and enjoy the most. It is no place to skimp.

I wanted the best so i went directly through Legendary. It probably cost another 400 but it was worth it. There were a few small issues, but they took care of everything for me - no problem.

Here is what my estimate was but this was 4 years ago - prices went up by now I am sure.

Of course this is for a drop top, so sub the top boot for your headliner. If you plan to do the resto yourself, drop the trim shop labor, too. And you prolly dont want the seat heaters, either.

When I compared back then, the difference was about 400 from Leg to Pui. All worth it. So put off the new TV purchase and redirect it to your car's interior, as it will be the best seat in the house when you are done!

PS - see my interior makeover to follow in my interior resto footsteps...
