Bucket Seat Repro Springs - too stiff?

Am redoing a set of '69 bucket seats, one seat bottom was missing the entire spring assy, so I need to replace it. I've heard from Ben (Rambow) on this and other forums that the repro springs are too stiff.
Has anyone found this to be the case?
Thanks

I've had that experience twice. First on a set installed on a driver's bucket ('72 Cutlass convert). Seats rebuilt/recovered w/ACI foams and Legendary covers. Owner (about 6' tall or so) sat a lot higher....uncomfortably so.

Same thing on a set of original '72 buckets for a 442 convert....that time it was BOTH buckets....customer had dropped them off w/Legendary Interiors at a nearby show and they took them and redid them including new spring sets.

This guy was 6-1 or 6-2 and his head was hitting the underside of the convertible top.

I was there when the '72 442 convert owner first sat in them....helping him install all the interior up in the Chicago area. You should have seen the look on his face! The seats did have a bit of the "overstuffed chair" appearance to me when I first saw them and I remember looking at the open backsides of the buckets in his basement (we hadn't installed the new plastic seatbacks yet) where he had them stored waiting for installation. I specifically asked him....."These look like new spring sets.....why did they do that!??". I sort of warned him ahead of taking them upstairs to his garage that there might be a problem. Sure enough, there was.

I seriously doubt they will "settle in" over time to any large degree. Most new seat foams are a lot thicker than the originals which doesn't help either. Use Thornton's seat foams instead of ACI or any other brand.

Just another ill-made repro product....what a surprise!

Thanks Patton. Pretty much confirms what I've read.
