Hello all,
I have a 1972 Cutlass S that i am converting to a manual transmission. I am using a 1971 muncie 4 speed and a Hurst shifter. For some reason, the shifter is hitting the cosole. It appears that when I shift into 4th, it pushes my console back about 2" further back than it should be. What is going on? Please see pics. Any help would be much appreciated. Neutral position Shifter type It's in the center 4 gear is pushing the hump back Neutral position 4 gear. The front attaching plate doesn't make contact with floor
The 4 speed console should be cut out at the bottom to clear the hump. The ones I saw didn’t look this clean, they actually looked like they were broken and missing a big chunk.
Going through a similar problem on my 65 442. do you have clearance in 1st or 3rd ? If you do my questions are is the Shifter mounted in the correct holes? If yes do you have the right adapter plate for you transmission? I would start there, also can you pivot your Shifter forward to give your self more clearance.
I do have clearance in 1st and third. Hmmm I wasn't aware that I could pivot the ******* from its current position. I'll take a look tomorrow to see if the plate has that attribute. That's really all I need to do is have it face more forward. That might do the trick! Thanks!
I believe it was the mounting bracket. I ordered the proper one for a my car and it looks nothing like the one that is currently one the trans. I'll post an update when the new one gets here.
It was the mounting bracket. It all fit perfectly once the correct plate was put on. The shifter handle sits nicely in the center of the console, and the console site right where I was thinking it should. Thanks again for the help!
