Question 1971 Oldsmobile 442 - Seat Belt doubt

Hi guys, how are you doing?

I have a question about the seat belts, let me explain.
I had to remove the seat belts to properly align the interior carpet. When I went to put them back, I found that the passenger seat belt locks up and I can't pull it up. However, if I remove the plastic cover, it moves up and down without any issue.
Is there a way to adjust the seat belt lock so that it's just one inch higher? That's all I need for it to work properly.
I'm attaching a video in case I didn’t explain it well and so you can better understand what I mean.
Thanks in advance.

Regards

Did it do that before you removed it?

Either way, it's likely the ratchet locking mechanism can be adjusted so it works properly. I would take the plastic cover off and inspect the mechanism to determine why it's doing that.

Hi sir.

No, before removing the plastic cover it was working correctly, which is why I believe it must be something related to the adjustment.
I’ve looked at the mechanism, but I didn’t see anything that could be adjusted — I’m not sure if there’s an easy way to do it.
Thank you.

I replaced the carpet & seat upholstery in my '71 CS convertible & this happened to one of my seat belts. I wish I could explain to you in "detail" exactly what the issue was because I don't recall. However, what I "do" remember is this. I think what happened was...note again...I "think" I may have mixed up the two seat belt mechanisms when I went to reinstall each one. IIRC, I believe they are geared to each side. I think I swapped either the left for the right or I actually turned them around in their respective holes in the floor pan. Wish I could recall exactly, but I'm nearly certain I installed them incorrectly - like backwards or left-to-right, right-to-left.

Curious if you were able to resolve your issue & what the issue may have been?

Hello sir.

I've gone over this several times and I can’t get it to work properly. I’ll try to take a photo when I have the time. Basically, the belt is coming from the part next to the seat, not from the door side. I’m not sure I’ve explained myself correctly.
I’ll take a picture and show it to you. On another note, the housings have the silkscreen labels "R" and "L" on the inside, so I don’t believe I made a mistake in that regard.
I’ll let you know.
Thank you.

Regards.
