Im not knowledgable on these bench seats. Would my seat in photo be a type “39” as referenced in the excerpt from the Fischer manual?
i managed to remove the outer hinge cover (twas a PIA) and separate the outer hinge. I had hopes i could then simply lean the upper seat back forward and extract it from the center hinge. But she aint budging.

Your car is a 2DR.

That is not correct. "39" refers to the body style. The statement is "'39' Style Full Width Seat and Buick, Oldsmobile, or Cadillac 60/40 Seat with Notch Down Arm Rest". This section applies to ALL bench seats with arm rest (except the Strato Bench that is covered separately). The 39 style is the Holiday Sedan (four door hardtop) which is the only body style available that year with a fixed back bench seat and an arm rest.
So one thing that wasn't pointed out was use the thinnest metal what ever that you can. Thinner than a butter knife. Make it wide. Every size putty knife should be in your toolbox. Do not pry with a small thin screwdriver. The plastic is thin and the chrome will chip as soon as you break the plastic. Be patient with it. Better in the long run.

Those tears in the vinyl aren't too bad. The rest of the seat looks to be in great condition. Is your plan to recover all 3 pieces (both backs and bottom)? I have a parchment version of that seat with the same driver's side wear, although mine's worse than yours. My seat cover repair was a carefully placed white bath towel (for now).
Good luck.
The interior of this car is absolutely pristine except for those tears in the front seat. This car belonged to my grandmother (she’ll be 100 next month) and has 68k miles always kept garaged.
I’m trying to be good steward and preserve as much a possible.
Im hoping to find a good upholstery shop in FortWortj area who’s willing to “attempt” piecing in some new vinyl in the damaged areas. I’ve ordered some samples from SMS fabric.
ive talked to a couple of shops and they understandably can’t commit without seeing/touching the aged covers. If noone is willing, i may just leave the damaged covers alone rather than recover. I’ve learned it’s not about the money when it comes to proper stewardship of an unmolested car.
The simple route here would be to jump in guns a blazin, order a Legendary cover and drop it off at the upholstery shop and pat myself on the back. But not so fast. It’s only original once.
Being an old guy brings a different perspective. The once ugly is now attractive.

Just picked up the seat. The uphosterty guy was able to save the pleated sections and just replace the damaged areas that were in a few sections of the smooth vinyl. I’m happy that the seat retains the majority of the original material. Now to figure out how to reinstall trim without fouling up his great work.
This is a beautiful read. Your intentions are outstanding with regards to your Grandma's 442. Will there be a celebratory party when you are done and she rides in it once again? Heck, it may be she drives and you shotgun!
