1968 Cutlass Manual Console Overlays
1968 Cutlass Manual Console Overlays
Has anybody found manual console “chrome overlays” to place over the chrome trim on the center console for a 68 Cutlass?
I have some pretty deep scratches and a little bit of pitting on the chrome trim. I found the entire console top plates available, but I would rather keep the stock ones. Also tried 0000 steel wool, and 500, 1500 and 2500 grit wet sanding on a small test area. The scratches are too deep.
If no top plates are available. Who have you all been using to re-chrome interior components lately? I need to do bumpers and mirrors too. The top plates are cast, I believe, so no “plastic chrome”.
Thank you

Has anybody sent their top plates in to get re-chromed? Do you separate the chrome trim from the top plate or does the whole thing get chromed and then you paint the center section black? It appears as if the plate is all one piece.
Thank you, I saw those prior to posting. I’d rather refurbish the originals, as they really aren’t in that bad of shape. Just some scratches and very light pitting. I was looking for a less expensive solution.
