1957 padded dash

I just bought a 57 Olds Super 88 convertible and the dash is not padded. I don't know if the padding was stripped and then repainted or if that's the way it came from the factory. How can I find out? Were all dashes padded then?

I'm pretty sure that they all had a padded dash.

My research has shown that the 88 came standard with a metal dash with the padded dash as and option and the Super 88 and 98 came with the padded dash

It would be worth it to go the extra mile and find one that can be saved-spraying new colour on , I say this because the stitching is very unique and so is the vinyl texture and unless you can make these two worlds agree in your favour, it will always look like a ...well a fake. I reprsyed my '56 padded dash and even went the extra mile to tape off the white stitching, and it wasn't perfect but at least wasn't just painted over.

If your not going for a period correct restore then I prefer a nicely painted dash look over the padded dash. Just my 2 cents
