'69 H/O scoop hole

Up until recently I had always seen a 'grate' screen over the crudely cut hole in the hood of '69 H/Os. Lately I have been seeing a lot of original cars with no screen and being told that originally no 'screens' were fitted by Demmer. Are the screens on so many cars one of those improprieties that has taken on a life of their own as seems to happen in our hobby?

Yep, James is correct, no screen, in fact, interestingly enough, I don't think I've ever seen a 1969 H/O that had a screen on it, or should say that someone added it to.

I've never seen a screen in a real car either and I've seen quite a few over the years...

Well we knew my friend's documented, numbers matching car, took a light hit in the right front as the right front fender, hood, and door were replaced sometime earlier in it's life (with donor parts from an Aquamarine '69). Whomever cut the hole in the hood thought it would be wise to 'tack' in a grate over the hole (as I seen done on several other cars I've looked at oddly enough). We'll have to figure how to get that out of there. Thanks for the input guys!
