What do you think its worth? 69 H/O
What do you think its worth? 69 H/O
Been having a lot of people when i go out and ask if it's for sale and i tell them no.
Lately, I have been thinking about selling it but def not in a rush too. You guys on here probably no the best on what a decent price to ask on one if i do decide to sell it. Can check out the link in my sig under restore thread for pictures and work done.
what i have:
1969 H/O (mileage is at least 109k, not sure how many times it rotated over but i know it did once, since i did it
)
#343/912 on the Demmer list
Have protecto plate so it is documented.(bought in Dec of 69 in El Paso, Tx)
Non numbers matching, no D heads, no Intake manifold
Originally A/C car (3.23 rear end)
has a bone stock bottom end from a 76 Toronado with c heads and an Edelbrock performer intake, Qjet on top. If it fetches more money having a 69 455 block i do know of one that i can probably procure to put in this car.
3 inch X-pipe exhaust with headers.
Car runs and can be used as a daily driver EASILY (I know cause when i sold the caprice and getting the Rallye ready it was).
Body decent, does have its problem areas, main one is the cowl and rear passenger side quarter. Couple bubble spots here and there. Underneath the front floor plans need replaced. Only issue that i notice in the trunk is where the weather stripping is on the bottom right side.
Thanks for looking and the help in advance.

Tom, you said you're not in a hurry and also sounds like peeps bug you by asking if it's for sale? IDK - maybe I'm getting senile. IMO Everything is for sale at the right price. (sellers price that is). If you're just thinking about it right now, pick some God awful outlandish number out of the air for the next time someone on the street asks. If they say ok, you'll probably be ahead of the game. I get that with my car too. Usually I say something like 40K and it's yours. Shuts them up pretty fast. Your car is obviously in a different category than a 72 Cutlass S though.
As for actual value, I'll step aside and let the guys who know H/O inside out help you out. I know the 69 H/O is a special car and highly collectible. You might have to post some pics of the bodywork and overall appearance of the car (exterior/interior) to give the guys some idea of what they're helping with. You know someone's going to ask for that anyway, right?

Looking at the thread there is not really that many actual pictures of the car. I will post some up tonight....

It interesting to me just how many people appear interested in buying a Cutlass and many even ask me if my 442 is for sale. I have come to the conclusion they really just want to get bargain and then resale for a profit.
Everyone appears to be interested in buying a Cutlass or 442, or any classic car for that matter, that is, until they are told what the selling price is. Then it's a different story. Even when the selling price is at, or near market value. Of course, your car has a specific rarity and as such, has a specific following willing to pay a little more to own it.
I recently bought my convertible 442 for a steal because it came with a rocket 350 instead of the original 455. As a result of it having a 350 instead of the 455, all of the experts, who upon lifting the hood, quickly balked at the car. Which was a good thing for me. I think. Now I am trying to locate a low milage 455 for my dream car.

HOCA has H/O sale price info on their website. The sample size is pretty small, however. Their categories are I (pristine trailered show car), II (correct driver quality), and III (needs restoration). Only four 1969s are listed in the sales data, and only one in the category III. That one sold for $26K, but it was over a year ago. Obviously, missing parts drops the value, since it will be nearly impossible to replace the heads and intake (unless one uses "counterfeit" parts...).
Although it is a somewhat collectable car even missing parts, it's worth what someone is willing to write a check for. It's hard to say what someone who really wanted to have it would pay.
To me it's worth a $100 than what z11375ss offered.

IF you had a 455 period correct engine (not original) and the same D heads the car should be in the 40-45k min range....without either but a documented car I would say 25-30 min and thats a bargain considering what you can only get today for that price. this is pretty much the pricing I have seen in the past. If you have a mostly original car the price will obviously jump and the seller is in command
Ironically, that's exactly what I paid for mine... in 1981.
Bought it from a guy in beautiful downtown Burbank (really!). Non-original 455 with a rod knock (but WITH the D heads), missing intake, carb, air cleaner, and outside mirrors. Heavy bondo in one quarter panel. In my young and stupid days, I attempted to drive it home to Hermosa Beach. Spit the rod out and oiled down the 405 by the Mulholland Drive exit.
Fortunately, I later found the correct intake, carb, air cleaner, and mirrors, in a package deal from a guy in Orange County. What are the odds these were the original parts from that car?
By the way, if you adjust for inflation, $1500 in 1981 is worth about $3700 today.

And you may get surprised! I somewhat did this with my W-27 rear end. I had NO intentions of selling it. Absolutely NONE! A guy told me he was going to buy it and i told him it's not going to happen at any price.... He owns it now. I felt like i couldn't keep it for the price but it sucks real bad not having it anymore. I guess my point is, Will you be ok with letting go of it? If so put a high price on it and maybe you will get it. If not don't even think about a price, Just answer no.
Yes and no. I think my love for the A-bodies is enough, I was thinking about this last night and i am going to be one of those guys who will not truly appreciate the rarity of the car like someone else would. I am going to be one of those resto-mod guys. Sure its a real Hurst/Olds but to me another 69 Olds will be the same, just as fun to drive and i can paint it whatever color i want and put whatever i want in it and not feel bad for "ruining" the car. Hopefuly this makes sense...

right... Iwas interested in your story about finding the missing parts...but if yours was built 03c d or e and your found parts were from 05c or so then you would assume were from a different car. It would be nice if the parts were dated and actually from your car...does sound like it
. Same as the intake manifold.
Saw the car in F'berg last fall at the OCA gathering and think we talked briefly. Really like the car. Just my opinion, but you could do a little work and get that period correct motor to market it as a NOM "survivor" and get some pretty good money. Unrestored orignality is hot now and some folks will love it as-is. Or see a very reasonable path to a high dollar show/collector piece.
Totally understand your logic. I love to drool over rare/perfect cars but would only own one I can drive whenever I want to without too many worries.

We were talking about OAI hoods right? You brought the 69 that is in your picture? Are you going to the zone show next month? I am going to try and make it and thinking about bringing the Rallye this time to show it off.
and to be 100% honest i am not sure if its a survivor or not, of course i would love it to be lol. and the only reason i am saying that is because i have not owned the car since day one and no clue what has been done to it

The H/O is going to appeal to pretty knowledgable buyers. Present it fairly but in it's best possible light. No matter what is being/sold, I think you have probably reached a good deal when both parties leave thinking they could have done just a tiny bit better. If one or both think they got a screaming deal it probably means somebody missed something.
