Hey all you '69 H/O owners. I have seen many '69 H/O's and have never seen another owners plaque like was on mine. It was attached to the ashtray door. It was engraved with the original owners name and the H/O number. Was this something out of the ordinary?
I believe they could be obtained when the car was sold new. I've only seen one.
Ugh! Please don't tell me that. I don't want to find out that the car I plastered into a big tree when I was a kid was even more unique.
That night is my main regret of my younger days.
There was a form you filled out for the original owner to get an engraved dash plaque made by Hurst and mailed to them. This has nothing to do with the build number or Demmer number. Hurst did the numbering on a first come, first served basis so if you got an early car but mailed it in late, it was going to be a higher number. Didn't really mean anything historically. But they are still cool. You could put it anywhere you like or not even put it on. I've seen a few here and there over the years. My car doesn't have one. Most of the time I've seen them put on the glovebox.
That's it! Mine was on the ashtray door. Yes they are cool. The '69 H/O was and always will be my dream car. I had a great one and wasted it. Doubt I'll ever get my hands on another. They are out of my league price wise now.
Mine has the plaque on the glovebox door also. The owner stuck it on, so that's who picked the location. As noted, they did not come with the car, you had to send for the plaque separately. Some owners didn't bother. Also, the number on the plaque is not related to the number of the car.
Yeah, I remember the plaque stating 700 something, but according to the registry, my car was #513.
wow I had no idea 700 owners had sent in for a plaque…
my old car conversion #208 vin 350013 did not have the plaque…
I remember even the conversions were not in Vin order…they just grabbed them from the lot and did the work. There are later vins with earlier conversion #s
the HO registry is fun to review to see those anomalies..
a very strange documentation process
I may still have mine. I'll have to do some digging. I gutted the car after I totaled it and stripped everything off that was still useable before sending it to the junkyard. An entire lifetime has passed since then so not quite sure which box and where it might be. The entire suspension, motor and rear end went into a different car I had bought which I still have. The trans didn't survive the impact. Busted the casing.

Can't speak for 72 (Demmer), 73-74 (Hurst Facility in Ferndale) and 75 (Brighton) conversions, but they did it to the 83/84 H/Os as well (a different Brighton facility than the 75). But I wouldn't bet against it, even then. They just dragged them in from where they sat in the parking lot and the "receipt" number was assigned as they rolled in the door. Made sense, if you want to get paid per car, you have to have a tally of how many cars you converted. I don't think it mattered much to Olds, the conversion centers, or to Hurst. I'm just surprised they actually had kept some internal records from Demmer and Hurst covering that kind of thing. They probably never imagined anyone would care 50+ years later about VINs and production sequence.
I did find it. Boy is my memory bad. It was HO-560. Don't know if I should post the original owners name on here or not.
Sure wish I hadn't destroyed that car. They are way out of my price point and have been for quite a while. Don't know how unique it was. It was a non-AC car with 3.91 gears. Boy would she move.

Mine is also non-A/C, 3.91 gears. Standard rear was 3.42. A/C cars got 3.23s.
