NEWBIE question on doing it right
NEWBIE question on doing it right
So I'm looking for input from anybody that has tried to replace their vinyl top on a 72 Hurst/Olds. Cleveland Chair Company had supplied the material which makes sense as the grain looked like a bean bag chair I had in the 70's. Has anybody found a decent substitute? I remember reading about a guy who said that he had redone the 72 medic's race day station wagon with the last roll that was available and that was quite a few years ago. Would I be better off with no replacement and just placing the emblems on the sail panels? What is the concensus amongst our Olds lovers? I restored this car frame off to smoke some rubber when I was done but don't want to screw it up.
Elk is the grain type for the vinyl top and it is readily available in both white and ivory. Cleveland chair? Maybe disinformation but I believe I got that from a post on the H/O Club website years ago. I was lucky enough to find a guy that does both furniture and automotive upholstery here in Amelia Ohio and he did a great job on the vinyl top. He had the aluminum channel and white trim sitting in his shop needed for the edges from jobs done in the past. Lucky me right? Made my day/week/year.
