Question

I read somewheere that two, out of the 906 1969 H/Os were ragtops, and Linda V. has one of them. Is that true?
Someday I would like to met Linda, to sign my 1960 H/) 1:118th diecast . Prefer the driver's door. I heard she signed the driver's door of the 1970 442 Pace car for Dover Downs.
Sunday, Oct 13, 2008, Kathy Mettea signed the roof of my 1969 H/O model.

There were actually 914; 912 Holiday coupes and the two convertibles. The convertibles were the parade cars for Hurst - one was an east coast car and one was a west coast car. Linda got one of them. There were actually three convertibles built, but one was destroyed in an accident and replaced.

Linda was at GMs at Carlisle this summer signing autographs. She usually goes to the Musclecar Madness meet at York PA.

I was told by a Big time Olds collector he was offered one of the convertibles for a "tidy sum."

He told me he turned it down because it was too much to put into one car. [ No, I won't quote the collector or the sum] but we are talking mega bucks for a car.

Like I said, "I was told" I have no way of knowing if it was true or just OBS.

"OBS" = Olds B. S.

I will say that the car on ebay appears to be reasonably priced. Note, by the way, the 3687 Fisher Body Code. My 69 also has that.

The covers are avaliable aftermarket [ in black only] so no problemo

I was fortunate enough to find a Olds demo tape for mine which I think is a nice addition.

When STEROPHONIC SOUND (insert appropriate OOHs and AAHs) was first offered in the 1960s, demo tapes (and records for home systems) were available that exercised the separate stereo channels, to ensure that you could then show off to your friends what a great new sound system you had bought. I'm guessing most here aren't old enough to remember that.

pic and ore than you want to know

I am not sure if all GM tape players are the same or not.

As Joe mentioned the demo tapes came in the glove box of cars equipted with the new modern marvel. In this way you could listen to something when you drove your new car home from the dealership.

The first factory installed one I recall came in my mothers 67/8 "Deuce and a Quarter" [Buick Electra 225]

The car also had a foam headliner and was a hit at the Drive in

In those day there were many after market add on 8 [and even 4] track tape players that could easily be wired up [As a side not the 4 tracks took the same route as Beta]

Seem like I recall Lear as one of the more popular brand names of add ons.
Somewhere around here I've got an insert that plugs into your 8 track that adds a FM radio to you car if it didn't come with one.

I could be wrong about this [and this probably should go in the "Growing up in the 60's" thread] but I beleive 69 was the first year am/fm STEREO radio was an option. Right Joe?

No, CB came along later like I want to say 72/3. It began with [believe it or not] a gas shortage.Semi truckers were seen on TV communicating with them then the fad caught on to passanger cars.

Breaker Breaker

Ya got you''re ears on?

I am not sure about this but I beleive it was sun spots not too many years later that cooled the fad because of back ground noise and interference.

Also every idiot got one and the truckers began to shy away from being on the same channels passeneger car pratel was on.

Ok, For you young Whipper Snappers, here's the skinny. Door says "Oldsmobile" Button on left [see above post pic flat bar button] is to switch tracks. It will do it automatically but you could also switch them manually.

On the back [actually bottom] of the tape is listed the tracks and the songs on them. In this case Percy Faith, Vicki Carr, Earth Wind and Fire, Peter Nero,Andy Williams and others you've never heard of.

The tape is continous, there is no rewind or flipping to side A or B all you can do is change tracks [up and down on the tape]

Maintenance [to keep your tape from turning into spagetti ] should include cleaning the head [a silver roller inside the cover ] with alcohol [rubbing not drinking] with a long swab like the Dr. paints your throat with.

I picked up an 8 track recorder at Salvation Army a couple of years ago for $5. The bigger problem is buying blank 8 track tapes. When I was in high school (shortly after the glaciers melted) a friend of mine had an 8 track recorder and would make tapes for me.

Joe,

I'll dig around, I think I still have a "Claudine Longet's Greatest hits" 8 track that I will give you for all of your efforts in correcting my mistakes.

I would try to sell it on e-bay, but there probably aren't alot of takers.

But hey, It should mollify your wife's horses into a coma. [French of course]

Feel free to move to Growingup in the 60's

Please note 93Code86GN took this thread towards 8 tracks tape players.

THIS TIME I AM INNOCENT OF HI JACKING A PERFECTLY GOOD 69 H/O THREAD

I only felt thought it was my civic duty to illuminate the youngsters on the modern marvels of our day.

Sorry, my spelling sucketh

It's Whipper Snapper and was made famous by Gabby Hayes. As in "All these gall dern young Whipper Snappers round ere don't no nutt'in bout 8 track tapes."

Again for the younger generation, the great Gabby Hayes was mimiced in the movie "Blaz'in Saddles" as Gabby Johnson who spoke genuine Frontier jibberish.

p.s.

As far as making fun of a lady with an accent and being "PC"

It's beyond my limited capabilities.

But can you say, "Spider Savage"

FYI before you dye the cover. Clean clean clean and or look at Robs new interior thread where he dyed his seat belt bolt covers.
https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-makeover.html

I believe the assembly manual has a pic of the rear bracket.
