Calling 1969 H/O #355! I have your OH transmission!!!

Figured I better put this in a separate thread for visibility. For details, read back through my recent posts. I also have some individuals directly associated with many H/Os to help find you, if your car has ever come out to see daylight. Please contact me as we may be able to help each other out or I can at least help you!!!

I did contact Kurt Karch yesterday and he did say that this was definitely Hurst, as he has the production paperwork for it showing it was delivered to Butler, PA. However beyond that that particular Olds dealer has turned into a used car dealer now. Unless the car is still local to the area, that dealer probably has had no contact with the H/O owner...but I will still check to verify as they might have contacted them at some point to get a copy of any paperwork that originally went with the car.

Very cool. I've been following your other thread. Pretty sure it wasn't from my car, as mine was from CA. Plus I have #190 (dash plaque number).

Thanks Joe. This whole process has me a bit torn. I'd like to first find the current owner, and even hold onto the whole setup indefinitely, in hopes that I do find them. But also I am aware others here at CO may need these parts to give their H/O a proper transmission and/or shifter.

I am going to owe this place big time by the time I get this car on the road. So that's what has me wanting to open this to our members. I think it is the right thing to do. But I also know that everyone here probably wants me to find whose car it goes to as a first option. March is the deadline. Tick tock.

If the car is still local, Troy at Thornton's may know something about it. His shop is less than 5 hours from Butler PA.

Why not offer the trans to anyone with a 1969 HO? Chances are the car that this trans is from is long gone. Many others could benefit from having a 69 HO trans in their 69 HO. Your call but that is what I would do.

Yes, I've considered that. But I haven't had any solid offers on it yet. I do have a person who has expressed some interest however.

I'm going to need a number that makes me want to do the work to pull this from the car though. Not going to just take $500 and call it a day. Because if and when I pull this, I will need the full manual trans setup including an M-21, driveshaft, W/Z manifolds, and full exhaust minus tips. Not a cheap or easy project. Not expecting to get the full cost of all those things out of it obviously, but was hoping to receive a little higher premium from the actual car this belongs to.

Good news is, since I've had the car running, I can confirm the transmission has no issues whatsoever. So that's a big plus vs when I had no clue on its status before.

Also, let's not forget that the H/O that this trans goes to could very well have the original Muncie from my car now. So I guess that's what kept me holding out hope on this.

Wishful thinking but possible. Not many 1969 HOs were converted to manual transmission.

Good luck with however it plays out

I think you missed it along the way, but my father in law also OWNED the H/O this trans came from. So the swap is more than possible, it is probable.

Wanted to post what I found here...Using Newspapers.com, I found my father in law's old classified ads for the H/O. Eventually he traded the car in, but these ads ran from Nov 1976 to Feb 1977 in various papers within the Pittsburgh region. Had to get rid of the phone number because it is still my mother in law's number today! Take a look at some of the prices of the other cars listed too. Pics:

I was surprised you can search by phone number. Then narrow it down by state/region. I forgot this one...my favorite, trade a 64 corvette for a 4wd:

I live 1 1/2 hours from Butler, PA. There are a couple of '69 H/Os running around that I've seen in the Youngstown, OH and Beaver, PA area shows. Let me do some digging.

Just sent this email out to a guy around the corner from me that has a collection of 68/69 H/Os(drool)...

"Hey 'Mr blankety blank' I have a question regarding that wonderful collection of 68- 69 H/Os you have (drool). Im a long time Old's owner, currently a restored 68 442, and a member on Classicolds.com. A member there has an original OH code automatic out of car number 355(1969). Hes asking for anyone who would either have that car or know of it to come forward and claim the trans. Sure be nice to reunite the car with its OEM trans case. The vin is...344879M363895. Car originally came out of Butler PA, Trostle Olds."

There is a slight chance that the H/O in question might have the original transmission for the w30. If that's the case I'm sure a deal could be worked to reunite the correct parts with the correct cars.

I can only imagine how amazing it would be to find the 69 H/O. Even if it didn't have the M-21 in it, it would still be such a huge deal.

Let me know what you find out, Hurst Olds 73/74. Yes, the car was originally in Indiana PA.

These are the two (or three) cars I have photographed this year. Maybe someone knows how to get a hold of them. The first was photographed at the Fathers Day Cruise-In in Hermitage, PA and has PA historical tags. The second was at the Hot Summer Nights Cruise-In in Beaver, PA. The last one has Ohio historical tags and was at the Northeast Ohio Chapter Oldsmobile Club of America Show at the Carnation Mall in Alliance, OH in August. I'm not sure how you can tell what number the H/O is. I couldn't see a number on the H/O dash tag in the one picture. Someone from NE Ohio OCA should be able to identify the '69 H/O and its owner in the last photo.

I can tell you the Ohio Hurst pictured is Mike Droidzibob (sp?) it is a Hurst that he found in a barn from the New Castle area if I remember correctly and is numbers matching. I live just outside of Indiana PA and there are few Oldsmobile's in this area that I know of, that doesn't mean the car isn't in the area, as it very well could be, but it very well could be in a junk yard or clear across the country by now. We may never know.

Yes, that would be about the perfect ending to this whole deal, finding the H/O. Correction, finding the H/O with the 007 4 speed in it would be a little better.

Strange, I was just thinking of bumping this thread yesterday but I logged off and forgot.

Throwing some additional text in for Google:

1969 Hurst Olds #355 - previously owned in Indiana, PA

Trostle Oldsmobile Butler PA

I'm willing to pay a finders fee. $500 if you can locate this car. If you know of anyone who has an 1969 H/O and doesn't get online much, please check with them. Thanks!
