69 hurst mirror height?

I picked up a set of mirrors that "supposedly" were from a hurst scrambler, they look the part as they have a painted housing instead of the normal chrome talbot style, to me on the car they look a little "short" can anyone tell me the height of the base? or overall height of the mirror. Thanks in advance..

Sorry, I don't have the demensions. But I can tell you one thing for sure. Nobody but a crane and see out of a 69 H/O the mirrors are totally useless.

But Jamesbo- they looked so damn cool!

I had forgotten Hurst put those on the SC/Rambler too. There's a guy over on AACA boards who has a SC/Rambler and is very knowledgeable about them. Contact him and he can prolly give you dimensions for the ones they used.

Thanks fellas....

well I did some internet searching and it appears that they are 3" from the base to the phillips head screw that holds the mirror in and they are a 4.5 inch mirror.... I agree they don't look like you will see much , but I am with rocket traider they look so damn cool.....

a funny thing about the hurst scrambler is if you look at the graphics they were very similar to what hurst originally proposed for the olds....The scrambler also used the ford ram air top similar to the olds....

I love hurst scramblers....... the whole red white and blue just smacks americana, and the kenosha azz kickers were nuthin to sneeze at...

I think there are actually a SLIGHT difference between the 2... looking at the AMC picture more and more i think i have the scrambler one on my door instead of the H/O lol. I will post some pics of both of the mirrors and some dimensions in a little bit

Iknow the black one is a repop from Fusick's but i have no clue if the mirror is a cheap knock off of something or used on the Rambler... Just throwing out the measurements and some pics for you Eddie.

Attached are some close ups of one of my originals. No dimensions on them, but the details and shapes of the pieces may help...

wow thx fellas....

Sicky mine resemble what you have on the car, not the repops they are 3 inches from the base to the Phillip head screw height wise so unless I want the slightly bigger base they should be fine. My plans for my cutlass s convertible will be a tribute/clone affair in my mind a tribute is using the original as inspiration and doing a modern twist, I have a correct date motor but with c heads, I have converted to 4 wheel discs, I have an idea for an updated Hurst wheel look, I want to use my gold interior to go with the gold stripes, I will be beyond up front with what the car is I think a 455 powered 4 speed, posi tractioned disc brake stopping olds is gonna be cool :-)

Just an FYI, The 1969 H/O and the SC/Rambler used the same mirror, they will have a sort of 'squared off' end on the front of the base. There were some re-pops made in the 70's, not sure of the manufacturer, that were similar to the original but he base is more of a 'oval', rounded at both ends and I believe those are the ones that 'sicky' has.

Sounds like the ones I have too... they definately don't have that squared off tang, but they will fit correctly, and as I am not building a 100 point car, but an interpretation of the car it should be fine.

Unless someone knows exactly what they are looking at, or there is an actual one next to it, people cant tell the difference .

thanks Tom that is what I think too.... I am going for the flavor, not trying to fool anyone... I know people get "touchy" on clones/tributes etc etc , but the fact is I can not afford a 69 hurst drop top and damn it I want one LOL....

I am leaning toward a white top maybe with the gold stripe on top maybe ... I don't like the look of the blacktop with the white n gold I have seen a goldish tan ... I don't think the gold will get lost I was also thinking to add the gold headrest stripes as the gold stripes are metallic and the 69 gold interior colour is somewhat darker maybe add a pinstripe like was originally thought about I had also seen a pic somewhere of a black n gold 69 prototype that would also be cool change the black pinstripe for red???? But right now leaning on the released design.:-)

I like your ideas! Eddie. I too am building a 1969 hurst drop top clone in a Resto mod motif. Roller 455, Turbo 400, Kore3 c4 brakes, 18" x8 fronts and 18" x 10 rear. I Just got the motor running now I have to start on the bodywork. Hoping to get it painted by late summer.
