The hammer fell at $77K for a very nice '69 H/O. No mention of it being numbers matching but was represented as a 55k mile car. Was also represented as a survivor with just one re paint. In my opinion, once it's painted......no longer a survivor! I looked over the car pretty close and it seemed to be quite nice. Price in my opinion was right on the money and didn't have the Barrett Jackson inflated sale price.

Friend of mine bought it. He's pretty jazzed. I'll get to check it out good in a few days.

Unrestored, but was painted once and the engine was painted/detailed.

 

So the holy grail of Oldsmobiles, a 69 HO, sold for $70K while the thread below this one is about a ' 79 HO that sold for $140K. Weird.

Guess we can all have our own "holy grail" of Oldsmobiles.

Lots of other ultra rare Olds models out there that are more sought after and valuable than the 69 H/O.

Matter of opinion I guess.

Also, can't compare the charity cars. Everyone knows why they are over-bought.

In fact those are the only ones that actually make any sense......

 

Saw the auction, a great part of it was the Olds T-shirt the buyer of the 69 H/O had on, and when the announcer noticed the shirt he mentioned something like, "now he knew what he wanted." Very nicely done. To that new owner, congrats and hope to see you at the H/O Nationals this year! The car looked just great.

 

Again, don't confuse a charity donation with actual value of the car. The 79 was a charity sale. That means that all money over the nominal value of the car is a tax deduction for the seller. Go read my comments in that other thread.

This 79 H/O owner says, great car man, great car. That was my favorite car of the entire show.

Actually, I sold it to what turned out to be a flipper a little over a year ago He purchased three cars from me. He took it to Mecum in Florida in Jan 2014. The bid went on at 82K. So he tried again at BJ. That was a good car. Too good to restore. It did have a repaint except for the trunk and the door jams. There's a lot more to the story. All good. I am absolutely positive that I would not find another one like that. I hope the new owner sends me a pm.

 

did I miss something here? it went to 82 grand at mecum and he didn't sell it so he takes it to bj and sells it for 70 grand? im confused like always

 

You are not the only one confused here. When i saw the bid goes on at 82K, I thought wow that is good money. But then I saw it back at his dealerships, obviously it didn't sell. There's lots of shenanigans going on at these auctions. At one point he wanted 100K at his dealership. Maybe the 82K was not real money.

well if it was a 1 repaint car thats not too much to pay but why would a dealership set it so high? Is that the one thats been online a few times on ebay with 55k miles?

 

Not sure about the ebay car. This one had 50K miles when I sold it. It had Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires which you don't see much these days. As for the price being set high, maybe a perspective buyer might have felt good getting a big discount. Kind of like 70% off sale on jewelry. You think you got a deal but all you got was a dilation. Can you post the ebay add. That car was all there, I mean all there.
