1974 Hurst Olds

Does anyone know if the Edelbrock (#7551) air gap manifold will fit under the stock hood of my 1974 cutlass 455 W-30 engine, without hitting? Any advice on manifolds would be greatly appreciated. Cam 1500 - 6500 power range. Thanks to everyone.

It likely depends upon what air cleaner you have.

The Air Gap manifold is 2 1/4" taller than your Olds manifold.

Measure the gap between your hood and air cleaner to see if you have that much clearance.

For example, you can use a stack of modeling clay for the measurment.

Unfortunately I have the motor already at the builder and can not now measure without the motor in the car. Poor planning I guess, but at the time I was unsure what cam and pistons, etc. that I would be using.

Duke,

Here's a list of heights for some common manifolds:

Olds 406115 W-30 3.30"
Edelbrock 2151 Performer 4.95"
Edelbrock 2760 Torker 5.05"
Edelbrock 7551 RPM Air Gap 5.54"
Prof. Products 620-57027 Crosswind 6.50"
Edelbrock 2810 Victor 8.20"

If someone will measure air cleaner clearance on their '74 Cutlass with 455, you will be able to figure out which manifold will fit with the stock air cleaner.

I know, that's what I have been looking for. I have posted on many sites with no luck.
Thank you so very much for those dimensations.

Duke, if you don't get an answer in the next week, bring your thread to the top again with your specific request for measurement. Keep bringing it to the top weekly; someone will respond.

I have the performer on my 74 Salon 455 w stock cleaner, and it barely fits..but does compress the hood insulation..
not sure if your dual snorkel air cleaner is taller..

Bill, does your air cleaner body measure 2" from the carb mounting surface to the rim around the filter?

And would you measure the thickness of the compressed insulation?

tried to get a pic,but I'm all thumbs..I measured 2 in from on top of inside lip of air cleaner to rim without lid.
insulation is about 7/8 thick but is compressed about 3/8 at lid..hope this helps..
please note that I know it's an edelbrock performer, but my dad built the engine around 2000, and I'm not the spec guy. It is a 455 from a 75 wagon, hence the offset aircleaner, which I believe Hurst had (hei)
