1969 H/O rim restoration

I have what I think is an original, un-restored 1969 HO rim and polyglass tire.
What should the back look like?
Did they paint the backside black and if so what paint and what procedure?

Any idea on the gloss factor: flat , semi or gloss?

This is so caked with grease and dirt I can't tell.

I just got done painting my SSII rims with my dad and I just painted the back side black to protect them from rust. Not many people see the back of your rims.
