I did a bit of digging about the air cleaner seals. OPGI (Restoparts) seems to sell the "more correct" air cleaner seals, if their product picture is accurate. Summit sells the OPGI one as well. Same picture of the skin on the sides and top, and doesn't seem as thick. Only issue is they don't have any in stock, and Summit says they should have them in stock by Oct 18th. I shot off an email to them to see what they say about it.
When I got my car, the air cleaner had been tossed. So when I did finally find one, the top was black and had been for many moons. I didn't know anything about where to send stuff to platers, etc. back then, so I just repainted it black. I might redo it in correct phosphate if OPGI has the correct style seal, but since I really don't care about going to car shows and such, I might just save some $$ and get the cast blast paint.
I saw this on eBay not sure how correct it is but another option.
I ordered one & now have it in my possession there is a hardware kit to install consisting of fine threaded nut a washer (top attachment) two screws for the tube (that's self explanatory) here comes the confusion there is two slot holes on the shroud How does that attach ? please tell me I don't have to remove exhaust manifold? and tie it into exhaust mounting bolts if so seems overkill please adviseThankssch1440

Sorry for the confusion referring to the Heat Riser Shroud the Metal Stove over the passenger side exhaust manifold with the pipe going up to the thermal diaphragm on the air cleaner snout. How does that metal piece attach on the bottom it has slotted holes ???

Thanks for the info BUT when installing the shroud I understand the top of shroud attachment 👍
But what I don't understand is the slotted holes at the BOTTOM where do they attach? Sorry for this questioning my 455 didn't have one on, the bottom of the shroud is confusing me I assume or hope you don't have to remove exhaust manifold to install?

The only hardware holding mine on is the nut and washer that attaches to the head bolt stud, you should not need any other hardware.
That is NOT a 69 base. 69 has two round holes for dual valve cover breathers since the PCV comes out of the intake manifold directly to the carb. There's also a single drain hole in the bottom of the base in the back to drain water. An Olds service bulletin soon afterwards added extra holes since water ingestion was sort of a thing.
The inner lid looks suspect as well. All I can say is good luck for that seller. The actuator lid looks like a gennie, but I just did a cursory glance. FWIW, the tops were originally gray phosphated. Haven't been paying attention to any repros if they're making any.
So, are you saying the 69 442 air cleaner base is different from the 69 H/O base? All the 69 442 bases look like they have a single hole. Just trying to understand. Thanks

Yes. You are correct. The 69 442 base, while basically the same, has only one vent grommet hole and I'm pretty sure no water drain hole in the back. The grommet holes aren't just drilled into them, they're rolled over so to speak for a smooth opening as to not damage the rubber bits. Or cut your finger. "Fake" H/O bases can usually be spotted because they don't have the finished hole on the driver side.
69 442 base:
69 H/O base- a real one may or may not have the 5 drilled holes. If the bulletin had not been performed, you'll only have 1 hole in the back. 70-72 ram air bases came with the extra holes:
Here's mine for comparison. It doesn't have the bulletin performed on it so no extra holes.
And while this one is not 100% correct, you need to understand the concept of supply and demand. These air cleaners only came on the 912 (915 if you count all three convertibles) 1969 H/Os that were made. Real ones very, very rarely come up for sale. There were repros being made for a while, but the are fiberglass, not the original metal.
Isn't that a 1968 base?
The repro ram air shroud that Bob Andersen in Florida sells is metal, actually a close repro very minor differrences, not sure if he sells anymore...
Following up on this discussion--has anyone here recently purchased an air cleaner to hood seal from OPGI for the '69 H/O? Does it have a skin on all surfaces as their picture would seem to indicate or is actually like the other reproductions?
Another question, can someone share good photos of the original vacuum motor to top rivets?
