Has anybody found paperwork above headliner in a Lansing built car, if so is there a way to look without damaging headliner?

 

I have heard of Lansing paperwork being above the gas tank possibly in the backs of the front seats and under the rear seat but not the head liner. Also Lansing was not known for putting build sheets in the cars. Hopefully someone will chime in before you pull out the headliner. Good luck.

 

Thanks Gary, I have looked in all the other places, do not want to ruin headliner its in good shape.

 

Lansing-built cars are notorious for not having build sheets in them, and it would be foolish to tear apart a perfectly good headliner on a Lansing-built car (or any car, for that matter) just to see if a buildsheet is there. As noted by Gary M, they seem to be most often found taped to the top of the gas tank, but they have also been reported found nearly everywhere else (under the front or rear seats, inside the rear seat back, under the carpet, inside one of the doors, above the headliner, and under the rear shelf).

People who find build sheets usually do so when they've taken the car apart for some other reason.

 

I had a 70 Camaro from Van Buys in which they did leave build sheets. It was not on top of the tank, found one in the back of the back seat but it was for another car in the line the day mine was being built. I found mine by happenstance. I was fooling around one last time from the back of the pass seat looking for the build sheet under when I just happen to look down at the back left seat attachment to the floor. The carpet was pulled out of the metal foot thingy a little and I saw a tiny little, thumb nail sized pc of yellowed paper that looked like old paper, so I ripped the carpet out more (it was shot anyways) and was like damn that looks like the build sheet, so pulled back the carpet and padding more and tugged slowly at the paper. it was the build sheet for my then 70 SS camaro. I managed to get it out intact 98%. It was tucked up under all the carpet and padding on the trans tunnel. Funny thing is that after all those years you think spills and the like from careless passengers would have got to it and ruined it. Nope it was in great shape.

 

I've had hundreds of Lansing built cars apart in the last forty years and I've never found a broadcast card or build sheet above a headlinner. ~BOB
