OAI hood/what brand?

Hey guys,I may finally have the money to get a OAI hood for my 72' cutlass s.Iwant one that fits nice, that the chrome trim will fit on.What brands do you have, and how are the fitment issues? Also would like 5-800 price range, cant go with THORTONS,although its probably the best.I've looked at VFN,glasstek, parts place,so far.Leaning toward VFN,quality and service seems best ,and price is 600.Who else makes them?I understand some work will be required,im a painter ,so i can do it myself within reason. Thanks for any input/advice,BO

OAI Hood

I went with one of the first ones from the Parts Place. I bought it about 18 months ago. The first group they made had crating problems and were damaged in shipment.Mine was one of those. The second one came in good condition. I wanted to go with one from Thorton, because they are the best. Thornton wasn't making them again during the time I was ready to buy. I went with the Parts Place one because it was a fiberglass and steel combination, somewhat like the original and less expensive. I don't remember the exact price, but I know it was in your price range. It fits ok, but not great. The front long chrome pieces that mount to the front of the hood, where it makes the bends, it is not the same as the original hoods, so large washers are needed to suck the chrome into the hood. The hood doesn't follow the fender lines that well. When it is fully closed the fender lines are curved The hood is straight where it meets the fender lines, so you end up with a good blend at the front of the hood and at the rear near the windshield, but about half way up the fender, the hood is well below the fender line . I still like it because it is glass and steel ,like the original and for its price, but it isn't near an original hood, like they advertised. If you want a great fitting hood, it will cost more.
