I am trying to remove and replace the PCV valve on my 67 Cutlass stock 330 V8 Quadrajet . The car has been in the family since 67 and generally all original. The current and likely original PCV on the passenger valve cover is brass colored with a bolt-like hex appearance. The replacements sold are typically round barrel shaped silver PCVs. Tugging on this PCV it doesn't seem to want to come out. Unscrewing it seems like maybe it backed out a bit as if threaded but then just spins.
Is there a nut or clip under the valve cover holding in place? How should this come out? I don't want to remove the valve cover to inspect (it's a long story).
Not a 67 expert, but I don't think that is stock. I would try prying the whole think out, the gourmet and all. May have to buy a new gourmet, to redo, and put a stock PVC valve back in.
That's not the original PCV valve. The original valve simply slips into the grommet. The grommet gets hard with age, in addition to years of heat and varnish that can cause it to stick. Keep pulling.
Also try turning it out, some of those aftermarket valves had threads that the rubber may have molded toward. Doubt there is a nut or clip. Order a new grommet, valve and hose before putting it apart as you'll probably need them. May also want to have a valve cover gasket on hand.
Thank you Olds Wise Men. Will the stock valve cover of the 67 330 have a baffle under the PCV hole that will catch most of the potentially crumbling grommet? If not, I will take extra surgical precautions. I do not want to remove the valve cover as I sealed it with RTV about five years ago, which I partially regret, apart from zero oil on the manifolds. I can't remember what it looked like on the underside. The other side does have a baffle.
