71 Rochester Quadrajet Numbers

Hello all,

I am trying to figure out the carburetors I have for my two 71 442s. I would like to know if the top and bottom plates are correct for the cars I have. The throttle bodies are 7041253 and 7041257. The only number I see on the bottom plates is 7029025 for both and the top plates numbers are 7047784 and 7040728. Is there a book that has this information? Where can I find this book?

The Rochester Big Book 'O Carb Info has the part numbers by carb ID number. Unfortunately the part number may or may not be the same as the casting number.

7041253 and 7041257 are the carb numbers, not the casting number. '253 is correct for a 442 with manual trans, '257 is correct for a 442 with automatic. The Rochester book only lists the part number for the air horn assembly, not the air horn casting, so that doesn't help. Note that the air horn assembly part numbers are different from the '253 to the '257 carb. Note that on the pages that follow, if a box is empty in a column, it is the same P/N as the the one in the box to the left of it.

Thanks Joe! That is very helpful. Any idea how I can ID the correct casting number for the top plate? The bottom casting number is 7029025 and I think the top plate casting number is 7040728 but can't verify that.
