Convertible top cylinder sizes

Why does my 69 Cutlass have two different length cylinders?

Some repro cylinders are shorter overall, but travel the same distance. Originals were longer than they actually needed to be to function. One of your cylinders has probably been replaced. They should have done both, but if the top comes up evenly, it's ok.

I've been told by some venders that they are different lengths, so I wasn't surprised when I removed them. Just don't know why they would be that way.
The reproduced kits seem to have same length cylinders so you may be right. Idk
