If you have a shop manual it should tell you how to adjust the hinges. If you don't have one, I would encourage you to get one. It is the best thing an old car owner can have. You can find them all over ebay at varying prices. The hood hinges on my 54 adjust from bolts on the backside of the firewall inside the car. I don't know if the 57 is the same but get a flashlight and take a look.

Will they go down if you push on them when it is supposedly shut? If not, have someone push upward on the front end of the raised hood ,while you watch the movement at the hinge where the"rivets" go through the holes .Watching closely while the are pushing up then down on the hood you may detect some movement(slack)at those connections. If so, your hinges are worn oblong causing slack and your hood will not pull down at the back when shut. There are places that rebuild the hinges listed online ,or you may be able to weld the holes up some and re-drill them and replace the rivets ,which are available online . Best of luck, Larry
