What the best way to sell a 1989 olds 98

An 89 98 Olds with 70K and is well kept and looks near new. Where do post photos and vehicle details to get the most attention?

You can post a For Sale thread. Make sure you post an asking price, location and pictures.

One word: Everywhere.

On this site. On Craigslist. Facebook marketplace. Perhaps on Bring a Trailer. What you need is exposure. There is no single place that is best. Some potential buyers will look at it as a collector car, but others may just be looking for low-cost daily transportation for his daughter who's heading off to college or something, so you want to post in places that cater to both kinds of buyers.

Craiglist is nearly free (I think it's $5 per month for a car-for-sale ad) and probably gets more nationwide exposure than any other site. Craigslist tends to get disparaged because everybody thinks it's nothing but scammers, but I have sold two vehicles through Craigslist with no problems.

I hate facebook, but facebook market place seems to be better than most for later model cars kids would be lookingfor for a first car, or someone that just needs a sedan/etc.
Autotrader and ebay will come up on autotempest search engine . That opens the market up even more.
The ole park at angle on front lawn with for sale sign tends to still be the best. If it is tagged, parking it on a saturday at the local supermarket or box store with for sale sign in window also tends to work.
Here many supermarkets have a board at the enterance to place cards with items/events. might see if yours does also.
Good luck.

I sold a car once this way, too. Had it parked with a sign in the window at the outer edge of the parking lot where I worked right next to the road that passed by.

There are two old cars near me right now being "advertised" this way. Both are 1955s. One is a Buick, the other a Thunderbird. Both look gorgeous, and if I had the money, the space, and the inclination, I'd be looking at them.

The thing about ebay and some other sites is that they cost more money. As I said earlier, Craigslist is $5 per month, which is nothing. Ebay has several packages in increasing price with increasing fees. As you go up in price, you get more photos, the ability to have a reserve, that sort of thing. Also, if you require a deposit from the buyer immediately upon purchase, ebay takes 2.8% of that.

Whenever I've sold a car, I've always started with the cheapest options (Craigslist, parking it in the front yard), figuring I'd move up to the money-charging platforms if it didn't sell. But I've never had to do that.

He could go all the way and put it up for auction at a Mecum auction or something similar. I don't think I've ever seen a 98 of this era at a Mecum auction (this generation of 98 tends not to be as collectible as earlier generations), but you never know.

For what it's worth, the Old Cars Price Guide's May 2024 issue, which is their most recent issue to include values for model years as late as 1989, puts the value of a 1989 Olds 98 in showroom condition at about $8,000. A little more if it's a Regency Brougham or Touring, a little less if it's the base Regency.

I have never heard of this. Looks like a great site! He should add it to his arsenal.
