W 31 Registry Listing

I am looking into purchasing a 1970 W 31 the owner doesn't have any documentation to verify if it is a real W 31 except all the numbers for the vehicle match. ie engine, trans, carb is W 31 big harmonic balancer, distributer etc. Can anyone tell me if this VIN is in the W 31 Registry? VIN 336870M309242

Original paperwork is needed to ID W31 Machines. This link is beneficial to you: https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...ication-45202/
Regarding lost paperwork GM of Canada may be of help if the car was sold there.
Not aware of a W31 Registry here.

Hope this helps....

Without documentation, then, it’s just a Cutlass regardless of the parts on the car.

The W31’s are the easiest to fake. Without any history or paper trail, you are taking a huge gamble.

Is it painted the original color? What's the cowl tag say for the paint color? I ask because that looks like Viking Blue which wasn't available on a 1970 A-body.
I would expect that a restored w-31 would be in it's factory color.

Looks like Astro Blue. If it's an automatic, and it has the "JO" trans with matching vin derivitive, then it's a fair chance that it may be the real deal.

I need to hit up my brother that owned a one owner 70 W-31. Some drunk jackass hit while it was parked. Absolutely destroyed that car. He was stuck on top of the car. All four wheels of the truck off the ground.

The color is Aegean Turquoise Metallic paint code on tag is - - (dash dash) which I believe is special color
The numbers matching motor and a dated real TM rear. However, the transmission is a JO TH350 with a different VIN on it.

A true W car will pull like no tomorrow. Emblems and stripes mean nothing. The balanced motor is the heart. Otherwise just another 350 4 barrel Cutlass.

I think you have answered your own question.
Other thing you could check is the date codes on the carb/distributor/various components and see if they jive with the build date of the car.
But based on the transmission it doesn't look like it was originally a w-31.
