W 31 Registry Listing
I am looking into purchasing a 1970 W 31 the owner doesn't have any documentation to verify if it is a real W 31 except all the numbers for the vehicle match. ie engine, trans, carb is W 31 big harmonic balancer, distributer etc. Can anyone tell me if this VIN is in the W 31 Registry? VIN 336870M309242

Original paperwork is needed to ID W31 Machines. This link is beneficial to you: https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...ication-45202/
Regarding lost paperwork GM of Canada may be of help if the car was sold there.
Not aware of a W31 Registry here.
Hope this helps....

Is it painted the original color? What's the cowl tag say for the paint color? I ask because that looks like Viking Blue which wasn't available on a 1970 A-body.
I would expect that a restored w-31 would be in it's factory color.

The color is Aegean Turquoise Metallic paint code on tag is - - (dash dash) which I believe is special color
The numbers matching motor and a dated real TM rear. However, the transmission is a JO TH350 with a different VIN on it.

Other thing you could check is the date codes on the carb/distributor/various components and see if they jive with the build date of the car.
But based on the transmission it doesn't look like it was originally a w-31.
