Vin Decoding
Post what is on your trim tag (or take a picture of it and post it here) and there are a number of people who can tell you such things where your '69 Cutlass was assembled, your original interior color and front seat type (buckets, bench), the original lower body color and the convertible top color, and when your car was built. The trim tag is riveted to the cowl on the driver side under the hood (you have to lift the hood to see the trim tag).

It lists all the codes with names and chip samples.

VIN numbers have never included color and trim info, not even in 2013. They'll tell you manufacturer, body style, engine type, assembly plant, model year, and, more recently, things like restraint system, but that's it.
As Dan pointed out.
COWL TAG - includes model year, body number, paint/roof trim codes/seating option, date build code
VIN - Birth certificate for car used to register at motor vehicles office. Includes Manufacturer code/model/year/plant/sequence of build
Note: Since 1981 cars VINS are 17 characters in length. Prior to that was up to 13 characters

This is what it means:
ST69 = build year

36 = Cutlass V8
37 = convertible
LAN = Lansing, Michigan plant
935 = red interior
50 = cameo white body
A = white top (I think, B was black)

A few details were missed on that decode:
1. ST69 is the model year, NOT build year. Many 1969 cars were produced in 1968 starting in July / August when the new models were being stockpiled for dealer inventory.
2. 37 should be 67 which is convertible
3. 366765 = body number assigned to car by Lansing Fisher Body Works. This number is not related to VIN
4. 04D - Time build at Fisher. This car was scheduled for production at Fisher in the 4th week (D) of April (04), 1969.
5. TR 935 is the red trim specific for Strato Bucket Seats
