Tank fuel pickup sock - 66' Toronado
Good day all,
I'm a little suspicious of the condition of the fuel pickup sock in the tank on my 66' Toronado. I'll be doing some rear body work on my car shortly and as part of that I'll be taking the tank out. I can't seem to find any info on this part, however. Is it something that can be replaced? Does anyone know the PN?
The inside of my tank was coated/sealed with RedKote back in the 80's and I have my suspicions that this stuff clogged up my sock so I wanted to take a look while the tank is out.
Thanks everyone! I hope I have this in the correct forum.

Sorry guys, I actually found the PN for the strainer, not sure how I missed it. The PN is 5651711 but a quick search brings up nothing really in stock. Anyone have any sources? Seems odd that there's no results as it looks like it was used on many of these cars. Thx!

Have you found a replacement fuel sending unit? When I replaced the FSU in my 71 98 it was a different style (the old one was a canister style while the new one had a swing arm). If you have a good FSU and maintain the car with regular fuel filter changes I wouldn't worry about the sock/strainer being there.

The sock on this car is slipped on the pickup tube at the bottom of the tank. You have to work with it inside the tank, which looks like a massive pain in the butt.

I know this may not help but Fusick is selling 66-67 repro fuel tanks and sending units.
But as you already know, the fuel inlet is in the corner of the tank and not in the sending unit area at the top of the tank.

I suppose if you had a brand new tank you could just use an external filter on the pump inlet line.

Yeah I contacted them recently as I'm interested in getting one of those to replace mine. I asked about the fuel strainer in the reproduction tank and they said that they do not provide a replacement filter, only the tank itself. That was pretty surprising. Why not put a filter in there when you're building the tank?? I actually forgot to ask them if they had any filters that we could use.

These inlet strainers are readily available in both 5/16" and 3/8" sizes. Figure out which you need (likely 3/8). This link is the 5/16 as an example.

Wow, thanks so much for this Joe! That's exactly the info I'm looking for. I had a feeling it wouldn't be difficult to source to the people who know better.....I was just thrown off by the old superceeded part numbers. Can't thank you enough for these suggestions.
