There are multiple posts with pictures of a standard tach installed in the clock pod opening. My car has a Sun Super Tach II in the opening. Looks a lot like this:

Other than the now out-of-production tach from GM Sports Salvage, there is no "bolt in" aftermarket tach for the clock pod. As shown, people have fabricated mounts to adapt them.
Tom, an instrument shop in Bloomington (Minneapolis) MN made it for me.
After the owner sold the shop, they lost their mojo.
Find a local shop and ask to see some before/after restoration pictures. You can judge from that if they have the capability you want.
National shops doubtless exist that can do this work. Look up some and ask the before/after question.
My instructions to the Minnesota shop were to use the same font and arrangement as the speedometer. The 6000 range was half the speedometer range. And it avoided the typical, unrealistically-high range that impresses only the ignorant and makes accurate reading more difficult.
A good shop will send you a pre-production color layout so you can ask for tweaks if needed.
Best of luck, and please post what you come up with.
Thanks very much for your detailed reply, Gary. Your tach looks OE. The detail and font are perfect, and agree with your choice of RPM max range. This is a great alternative to blank, clock only, or after-market tach in that location of the dash.
