Stuck adjustable seat buckle strap

Hello Experts,

1970 Cutlass S

What is a good way to keep your original seat belts (hand adjustable belt, not the rolling retractable one on the door side) that are stuck and won't adjust.

I was thinking WD40

- but I feel that will stain the belt.

Pictures please if available.

Regards,
Bill

Try silicone spray lube. The bar inside the buckle gets rust on it and won't move.

The buckle cover can be pried off so you can get to the rusted parts and clean them up.

Use a small screwdriver to pry the rear face of the cover (it’s one big tab) outwards, then lift the cover off.

If you're ambitious enough to take them out of the car, a run thru some hot soapy water does them good. Sink, top-load washer, even a dishwasher will clean them. Then hang to air dry. I found it worth the effort to take them to a laundromat.

Be aware the first time the water hits them, it will turn brown or worse as it dissolves 50 yr of use.

Great idea! Besides I just gutted the interior to put a new luggage shelf in under the back window and work under the dash.

That should really clean them up!
