Still confused--350/450 swap

I've read so many different threads on motor mounts my head is spinning. Will the 455 frame mounts and engine mounts sit the 455 lower in order to create good clearnce compared to the 350 mounts? I can't seem to get a for sure answer. I'm running a former intake and big holley double pumper so I'm guessing good clearance will be an issue. Thanks.

First, you CANNOT lower the motor any more than the stock position, as the oil pan is nearly on the crossmember already. Any sites that talk about that are BS.

Second, the motor mount holes on the block are in EXACTLY the same position relative to the crank centerline on every single 1964-1990 Olds V8 block. So long as the rubber motor mounts match the frame mounts, the crank centerline will be in the stock location (and the motor will be as low as it can go in the frame). If you have a tall intake, you will have to fix that problem with a scoop. You cannot lower the motor without building a new crossmember and frame.

Thank you very much how! That is the answer I was looking for. It wasn't so much other sites dating that as it was just random people commenting. Ok. So now I just need to put it in and see where we are. Maybe I will just buy one of the fancy 442 style goods with the taller scoops. Thanks again!

If you are referring to your 71 cutlass, a performer and a Holley shouldn't have hood clearance issues. "IF" it did, a drop base air cleaner would fix that.

Yrs the 71 but we are putting the 455 in with a former intake not a performer.

That's cool, I'm sorry to say, I don't know what that is, and google search doesn't help me. Got a picture or link?

You wouldn't possibly have a picture or an internet link to this intake?

That is a pretty tall intake. I use this air cleaner to gain as much room under a flat hood as I can get.

I don't guarantee that it will give you the clearance you need but it will help. Its one of the lowest drop base air cleaner housings that I found out side of maybe a Spintech.

I had a Torker on my 455 in a 1970 Cutlass S (steel hood) and I used a drop base air cleaner with no issues.

You should have no problems with a Torker intake under a 71 hood, regardless of carb.
