Since I bought my Dymanic 88 the Speedometer does not work. Recently I changed the front shocks and when on the drivers side decided to investigate why. On removing the grease cap there is a square drive inserted in there but whatever joins it to the cable through the axle shaft is missing. What exactly am I missing here? I presume another sort of long square drive or insert that joins the both, I am open to any answers here. Thanks.
The 1965-70 Olds full size cars used a plastic socket inside the dust cap to drive the speedo cable. These are not reproduced and N.O.S. or good used ones are nearly nonexistent. Unfortunately the get broken when ham-fisted "mechanics" don't know what they are doing.
And I might add, make sure the speedo cable isn't binding.
It's a good idea to remove the cable from the casing and clean and lube it with Vaseline
A binding cable can cause that 60 year old plastic to snap easily..
I have this setup in my 64 Ninety Eight as well. The cable AND the little nylon tube were broken. I replaced the cable, and I JB Welded the little white tube into the cap. I will be on the lookout for more of these NOS caps at future swap meets!

Hey Baron! Let me know if you can't find the cap that you're looking for. As my Olds uses this setup, I have a template to try to build one with a standard cap and my boy's 3D printer. He likes a challenge.
A small correction Joe.
That should read 1963-70 Olds full size cars....
The part number changed somewhere in there, but they all fit the same.
Yeah, I was lazy, as I didn't want to get into the Jetstar 88 exceptions. The 64 J88 drove the speedo from the trans, and while the 65-66 J88s used the wheel-driven speedo, the caps for those are unique to the J88 because they used the smaller A-body front wheel bearings and hubs.
