By chance does anyone know what holds the spare on a 2001 Bravada in place? The fumes from the refinery in town are dumbing down our local shop. I drop the truck off this morning for 4 new tires and mention that when I bought the truck new I put a lock on the underside where the rod goes thru to turn the cable that drops the tire to prevent theft of said tire. Being as how its 15 years later and the damn key won't turn the lock in case I get a flat on this weekends 900 mile trip into NY, could they cut off the lock. Sure,, no problem. Pick the truck up during lunch and ask about the lock. Yep, got it off. Cool. End of the day I lift the rear hatch to put stuff in and there is the spare. Crap, now I have to go home and put the damn thing back in place. Why the hell is it here? Well..... climbing under the truck I see said cable dangling with torch marks and when I look back at the square gear type mechanism the fricking lock is still snugly in place! Fricking knuckleheads! I have to assume there is some kinda plate that holds the tire as it gets winched up but there ain't nothing there now. So now when I go in tomorrow and unload, anybody have a photo of a tire in place so I can show these bozos what needs replaced ASAP?
