Reference for GM master cylinder castings/codes?
Reference for GM master cylinder castings/codes?
Hi all -
I recently pulled a dual-bale master cylinder from my '72 Supreme (455/M20). I'm all but certain it was not on my car originally.
It has the casting numbers 5488106-1 D3 and on the half moon area is an XD stamp, and cast near that area is 34 B.
Is there a database or reference where I can see what this unit came from originally?
Thanks -
Terry

That casting number was probably used for many applications. The "XD" code is what's critical and would tell how the master cylinder was machined and assembled.
I don't know of any list of application codes. But if you look through various year's assembly manuals and chassis service manuals you might be able to figure out where XD was used.

Terry, is this a non-power disc brake setup? I've got the double bale master cylinders on 1967 and 1968 power 4 piston discs, then I've seen photos of the non-power disc in 1970. All the 1972's I've seen had just the single bale. Not that I'm an expert,
this is just what I've seen.
